Man’s body found in B&B pool

A BIRTHDAY party in a McPherson Drive bed and breakfast (B&B) claimed the life of an unidentified 25-year-old man on Sunday morning.

The man was part of a group of friends who were at the party of another friend, Lisa Ngubane, on Saturday evening.

According to a Netcare report, the group was swimming in the morning when the man jumped in with his friends. They did not notice that he was not surfacing.

When they realised that he was not among them, he was found at the bottom of the pool.

The B&B owner, who that asked her name and that of her business not to be revealed, said she was inside the house when the accident happened. “I was just hosting the party because the birthday girl is a daughter of my friend. They brought their friends and started enjoying themselves. When they woke up in the morning they went for a swim and, because they are adults, I didn’t worry about them,” said the owner.

She said she feels sorry for the parents and family of the deceased.

Ngubane said she also does not know how the accident happened. She said the group went to the pool at about 7 am. “The owner woke me up as it was time for us to leave the B&B. So the rest of the group decided to go to the pool while I was preparing my staff to check out. At about 9.30 am, that’s when the alarm was raised about the drawning,” said Ngubane.

Netcare 911’s Jeff Wicks said when the paramedics got to the scene, the man was declared dead. His name has not been released as his next of kin were not informed at the time the statement was issued.
