Man’s car covered with paint remover

2010-10-27 00:00

A 27-YEAR-OLD woman, who is said to hold a prominent position in a supermarket in Raisethorpe, used paint remover on a car belonging to a Signal Hill resident, causing damage worth an estimated R10 000.

Police say the 41-year-old Signal Hill man, whose name is known to The Witness, opened a case with the Prestbury police on Sunday after receiving information about damage that was done to his red Ford Cortina three months ago.

The man told the police he discovered that his car, which he had parked on his premises at 11 pm on July 18, was covered in an pink substance believed to be paint remover.

At the time, the man did not want to open a case until he had gathered enough information. When he did finally receive the information three months later, two suspects were arrested — one of them being a member of staff at Shoprite in Raisethrope.

A source who contacted The Witness said the woman had solicited the help of another employee (25), who was also arrested.

The names of both the accused are also known to The Witness.

Police confirmed that the two accused appeared in the magistrate’s court yesterday and added that the parties settled out of court.

It is understood that the victim decided to drop the charges and does not want any compensation for damage.
