Marathon: road closures on race day

2011-05-27 00:00

ANY motorists planning to travel the Comrades Marathon route on Sunday will need to factor in the thousands of athletes competing. Starting in Durban at 5.30 am and finishing in Pietermaritzburg at 5.30 pm, the marathon will result in a disruption of traffic and road closures in certain areas along the 87 kilometre route.

Said race director Johan van Staden, “I advise the public who wish to cheer their loved ones on from the spectator points on the Comrades race route, to travel there ahead of time before road closures take place.”

The Comrades Marathon Association advises all motorists to be cautious, saying that alternative routes between the two cities will be co-ordinated, despite limited access to some areas.
