THE Marburg Primary School U13 volleyball boys’ team reached the final of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Games Volleyball tournament held at UKZN recently.

The team represented the Ugu district and narrowly lost in the final to a school representing the Mathubathuba district. The score in the final set was 25-20. It is a remarkable achievement for the Marburg Primary team as they were unbeaten in all their group matches and reached the final without dropping a set, winning all their matches by two sets to nil.

Outstanding players in the team were captain Nicholas Hansen and Simthandile Kolman. The team were coached by Mrs V. Kistasamy and Mr R. Moodley.

The Under-13 girls’ team also had a successful tournament. They won all their group matches, but lost to Trubel Primary School in the quarter-finals by two sets to one. The girls played exceptionally well and narrowly lost the final set 15-10. Outstanding players in the girls’ team were captain Wendy Mzobe, Nikkay Choonoo and Preshanee Mahabeer. The girls’ team were coached by Miss R. Govender and Mrs A. Gyan.
