Margate: Pakistan five face kidnap, robbery charges

2010-08-16 00:00

FIVE Pakistan nationals will appear in the Margate Magistrate’s Court today to face charges of kidnapping a fellow countryman, armed robbery and fraud.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said that on July 15, a Pakistani national was kidnapped from his business premises in Port Shepstone and taken to an unknown location in Margate.

“It is alleged his attackers held him captive for two days while they withdraw money from his account and used his credit card to purchase goods.”

When the complainant was released, he reported the incident to police at Margate.

“Detectives at Margate managed to identify the suspects and eventually traced them to a house at Uvungo. On Friday an operation was mounted by detectives from Margate, crime intelligence and the dog unit. They stormed the house and arrested the five Pakistani nationals,” said Naicker.

He said the suspects were found in possession of many chequebooks, credit cards and sim cards as well as forged identity documents and passports.

“Detectives are looking into the activities of the group to determine if they are involved in other criminal activities,” said Naicker.
