Margate police arrest suspect

2011-03-18 00:00

AN alleged car thief, who had previously escaped the clutches of the law, has now been caught by Margate police and will now face charges of theft of a motor vehicle and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.

At the end of January, the suspect stole a taxi in Ezinqoleni, but when police chased after him, he abandoned the taxi and escaped.

In February an attempted motor vehicle theft was reported to the Ezinqoleni police station.

“The complainant, told the police that in the early hours of the morning, somebody tried to steal his car, a Toyota Tazz,” Sergeant Pumzile Makaula of the Margate Cluster Communication and Liaison Services said.

Police arrested the man during a raid for the stolen taxi.

Makaula confirmed that the fingerprints found on the Toyota Tazz were a perfect match to those of the man arrested.

The suspect will appear in court today.
