Maritzburg College eye easy win against Affies

2012-07-21 00:00

THERE is just one schools hockey match this morning, as there are just two schoools continuing with the winter sports that were played last term, and Glenwood do not have a hockey match today.

Maritzburg College play Affies this morning on Papes astro. While Affies hockey has improved considerably over the past two years since the establishment of their own artificial surface, they are a still a developing hockey school.

College are considered to be one of the top schools, not only in KZN, but also in the country, and the game should be a comfortable win for the home side.

There are five sides that both schools have played and this also gives the superiority that College should have in the game.

Against Jeppe, Affies drew, while College won 7-1. Against Pretoria BHS, Affies had a good result, losing just 0-1, where College had also lost 1-2. In the other three games against Hilton, DHS and Northwood, Affies lost 0-3, 1-2 and 0-2 respectively. College have beaten Hilton twice, winning both 5-1, DHS 3-0 and Northwood 2-1.

Affies have not yet beaten College at hockey and they will be hoping to do far better than last year’s result, where they lost 0-7.

With two SA Schools players in Tim Guise-Brown — for the second year — and Lihle Mafalika in the goals, Affies will likely struggle to score against College.

The biggest enemy in a game like this is complacency and no doubt College coach Mike Bechet will emphasise the point.
