Maritzburg Cricket Club come close, but not enough

THE Maritzburg Cricket Association (MCA) T20 matches brought a 10-run win for Zingari over Maritzburg Cricket Club (MCC), a nine-wicket win for Standard over Masibemunye, a 114-run victory for Varsity against Young Natalians, and a six-wicket triumph for Cosmos over Lancashire.

Zingari were bowled out for 111 and MCC came close, but not close enough, reaching 101 for six.

Andrew Bennett of MCC was the top wicket-taker with team-mate Chase Strachan the highest run scorer.

Gareth Rall and Garth Boraine shone for Standard in their rout of Masibemunye, while Kivi Mohanlall and Faheen Sulieman were the stars for Varsity in their outplaying of Natalians. The final match saw Rishen Sewcharran and MI Osman stand out in Cosmos’s win.


Zingari 111 in 18 ov (Kevin Streicher 22; Andrew Bennett 3-17, Matthew Diedericks 2-14, Alistair Frost 2-14). MCC 101 for 6 from 20 ov (Chase Strachan 28, Matthew Wills 25; Kevin Bronkhorst 2-5, Lyndon Brown 2-15). Zingari won by 10 runs.

Masibemunye 80 for 8 from 20 (Monde Ntshiza 26; Gareth Rall 5-10, M Frenzel 2-12). Standard 81 for 1 from 9.5 ov (Garth Borain 42*, Juan Pretorius 20*). Standard won by nine wickets.

Varsity 212 for 8 from 20 ov (Kivi Mohanlall 51, Lucky Dladla 33, Warren Naidoo 32, Richard Hlela 28*, Sohail Ganie 23; Mickyle Kistan 2-25, Wayne Chetty 2-29, Victor Xhoseni 2-48). Young Natalians 98 from 17.4 ov

(Mohammed Jeebhai 42, Mickyle Kistan 27; Faheen Sulieman 4-5, Gareth Jeary 3-10). Varsity won by 114 runs.

Lancashire 73 from 14.4 ov (Elton Jordan 21; Rishen Sewcharran 4-10, Y. Moonsamy 3-7). Cosmos 74 for 3 from 13 ov (MI Osman 40*; Renoir Patricks 2-4). Cosmos won by six wickets.


Sunday: MCA T20 Premier — (at Carter) Young Natalians vs Standard (9 am); Masibemunye vs Cosmos (1 pm).

(at Linpark) MCC vs Varsity (9 am); Lancashire vs Zingari (1 pm).
