Maritzburg pupils bring back world karate medals

The five performed well at the tournament and three pupils brought back medals for placing in the top three in their divisions.

Among the girls, Green Hill Primary School pupil Yashna Sarju won a silver medal in the Kata division and Shirashni Sarju of Heather Secondary School won a bronze medal in the Kumite division.

Eight-year-old Leshan Pillay of

Merchiston Preparatory School was the youngest Karateka partici-

pating from Pietermaritzburg and did exceptionally well to win the gold medal in his Kumite eight to nine years division.
