Maritzburg v Hilton top of the pile this weekend

2011-10-29 00:00

TODAY there are four matches involving the top schools, two in the Durban area and two in the midlands. Westville are taking a free weekend.

Michaelhouse are hosting DHS. The two sides have not had the best of seasons and have not played one another nor any common schools this term. Visitors DHS will be looking for their first win, whereas Michaelhouse has not had a win since beating St John’s at Michaelmas Week.

DHS on paper has the better balanced side, but they have not been consistent enough. Michaelhouse need their bowlers to bowl a better line and length to keep batsmen under pressure.

This should be an intriguing game, provided the weather allows it to play to the end.

With the school’s cricket year drawing to a close, a win for either side will help improve their year’s statistics. St Charles travel to Kearsney and these are again two teams that have not played one another during the first term.

St Charles has had the better record this term and if Kearsney can repeat some of their performances from the first term, this game should be well contested. Hilton will be hosting Maritzburg College and the latter will be smarting after their loss last week against Glenwood.

This could make the College batting a difficult task for the Hilton bowlers, who have not done particularly well this term.

College won the game comfortably during the first term and will likely do so again today.

The improved Northwood team travel to play another in form team Glenwood. The visitors have played four matches this season — winning three and were denied a win against Westville by rain.

Westville had just one wicket in hand, but still required 53 runs. Glenwood has won all five matches this season and they will hope to repeat the first term result. Clifton has an easy match after some tough games against the top tier schools, when they host Port Shepstone.

Selected fixtures: Michaelhouse v DHS. Kearsney v St Charles. Hilton v Maritzburg College. Glenwood v Northwood. Clifton v Port Shepstone. Carter v Weston. Hillcrest v St Henrys. Howick v Voortrekker. Pinetown v Thomas More. Kloof v George Campbell. Kingsway v Amanzimtoti. Alexandra v MCS.
