Mark Fish: I’d never steal a tree

2013-03-09 00:00

“I WOULD not steal a tree. I would rather smoke it.”

This was the reaction of former Bafana star Mark Fish to a charge of the theft of cycads laid against him this week.

Pieter Nel, the new owner of Fish’s mansion, laid the charge on Wednesday.

Nel claims that when Fish moved out of the house in the Mooikloof estate in eastern Pretoria, he took with him several cycads on a trailer. He claims that “five or six cycads, two or three other plants and a swimming pool net” were removed.

Fish said yesterday he didn’t want to comment.“Me steal a tree? Really? Does that sound logical?” he said.

His girlfriend, Salomé van Rensburg, said on Wednesday, while Fish was in Spain, that the issue was three cycads which belong to her mother.

Property owners need a permit to possess cycads.
