‘Masobo not getting his medication’

2015-02-03 00:00

THABANI Masobo, who endured a brutal attack in Mooi River after being suspected of stealing a cellphone, is recuperating in Pietermaritzburg’s Northdale Hospital.

According to his cousin, Londeka Masobo, the 19-year-old is “getting better, but still complains that he is not getting medication”.

Londeka reported that the nurse who allegedly called Masobo a street kid had told him that he was making her name “look bad to the management”.

“I am in the health industry myself, but I don’t treat patients like this. She is showing no remorse and she is not professional,” Londeka said.

The Witness reported yesterday that Masobo was discharged from the hospital at night and had to walk nearly 13 km to his Caluza home.

Londeka said Masobo was not getting medication in hospital and that she was taking him what he required.

The Health Department had not responded to questions on the matter yesterday — six days after they were sent last Wednesday.

The matter was then taken to Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo, who said: “I don’t talk to you. You must have respect. There is a communications department and I have not been told anything about this. I cannot comment on something I don’t know about; you must go back to them.”

National Health Department spokesperson Joe Maila referred The Witness to his provincial counterparts: “It is their responsibility to respond to queries. They are out of order. They must respond.”

Later yesterday, KZN Health Department spokesperson Sam Mkhwanazi said they are busy with an investigation into the incident and would respond once they had gathered all the facts.
