2013-08-08 00:00

DOLPHINS cricketer Daryn Smit and Durban actress, comedienne and Eastern Mosaic presenter Jailoshini Naidoo will be putting their culinary skills to the test with the help of two lucky audience members at a cook-off in Durban on Saturday, August 10.

Judging their efforts, made from a selection of mystery ingredients, will be MasterChef South Africa’s Benny Masekwameng.

The cook-off is one of several foodie-related events that the celebrity chef will be taking part in at Suncoast Casino, Hotels & Entertainment in Durban.

From 11 am, visitors will also be able to watch a live cooking demo by Chef Sandren from the Suncoast Towers Hotel, enjoy blind food tastings and cooking speed tests and even win the chance to cook with the celebrity chef.

Masekwameng, an accomplished chef at Tsogo Sun, said: “I’m looking forward to having some culinary fun with the people of Durban. I hope they are ready to cook.”

Masekwameng will also be taking part in this year’s Good Food and Wine Show at the Durban Exhibition Centre, from today until Sunday.

He and fellow South African chef Jenny Morris will be joined by BBC TV personality and celebrity chef James Martin, vegan baking queen Ms Cupcake, and Anjali Pathak and Vivek Singh, two Indian chefs who have helped changed the Indian food landscape.

• Tickets for the Good Food and Wine Show are R75 (R40 for children) at Computicket.
