Matric: Markers to get letters of appointment

2012-10-19 00:00

MATRIC examination markers who haven’t received their appointment letters, should not despair as they’re on their way.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education said the 7 650 markers for the 40 subjects and 76 papers have already been appointed, but they are still busy with the ratification process.

This follows concerns from teachers that they had not received their letters of appointment.

Allen Thompson of National Teachers’ Union (Natu) said there has been a delay with the release of the letters.

Matrics are sitting for their first paper on Monday.

Chief director of assessment, examination and quality assurance in the department Dr Barney Mthembu said they still need to meet with other stakeholders, including unions before they can send out the letters. “We need to check the balance of gender, race, and a number of other irregularities,” he added. — Witness Reporter.
