Matric Rage video shows how teenagers keep the barmen and pharmacists busy in Margate

PARENTS who don’t want to know what their teenage children got up to during the recent Matric Rage after-exams festival in Margate shouldn’t look at The Witness website today.

A video showing alcohol being squirted into youngsters mouths from water pistols and boys groping strippers is on the website.

It was shot in Margate by Media24 digital journalist Nadine Theron over four days .

The film features youngsters telling the camera how drunk they are and shows what went on in the town’s clubs.

A local pharmacist said a stream of young girls came in for “morning-after pills”, while there was lots of kissing to be seen.

One young couple told the film-maker they were going back to their room to have sex.

A group of young men said their main aim of the evening was to have sex. One said he chose Margate over Plettenberg Bay for Rage because Plettenberg Bay was “gay”.

Le Roux Schoeman, a producer on the Media24 Digital team, said the aim was not to name and shame the youngsters, but simply to show what teens were doing with their new-found freedom after matric.

Theron said she was surprised to be so shocked by the teens’ behaviour.

“I thought there would be a lot of drinking, but I was shocked by what I saw the minute I arrived.”

All the youngsters shown in the video gave their permission or even asked for it to be used for publication.

What shocked Theron more was how the young people would dance a lot more suggestively and smooch that much harder for the camera.
