2013-08-02 00:00

IT’S time to start hitting the books.

The KZN Education Department yesterday said it is ready for the National Senior Certificate exams, due to begin on October 28 and end on November 19. The results will be released on January 6 next year.

“What is important for us is to ensure that we apply stringent safety measures when it comes to examinations in order to ensure that our

exams are without reproach,” said MEC Senzo Mchunu in a statement yesterday.

“Our Operation Scaffold, winter schools and all other intervention programmes that we are still going to implement are aimed at ensuring that we improve our results from last year’s accomplishment of 75%,” said Mchunu.

The MEC said that figures provided in the

media statement are provisional and could be amended:

• 173 153 pupils are registered for the matric exams;

• 1 735 examination centres are registered;

• 26 marking centres will be used; and

• 75% of KZN pupils passed last year.
