Matric pupils excited, but nervous about first exam

2014-10-28 00:00

RUSSELL High School matriculants were upbeat about their first matric exam yesterday.

“I was excited, to be honest,” said Russell High School matriculant Fatima Badat as she recounted her first final exam.

“I was looking forward to finals. I am a bit nervous, but I am prepared,” said Fatima.

Fatima was joined by her friends Jessica van den Berg and Nokuthula Zuma in her excitement for the matric finals.

“This is the beginning of the end. Twelve years of school is finally ending,” said a grinning and animated Jessica.

Jessica said next year was going to be a big change and that it was very scary to think about, but it was also something she looked forward to.

A bit on the nervous side, Nokuthula said it was nerve-wracking just walking into the exam venue. “I was shaking. To see everyone sitting quietly at their desks was scary,” said Nokuthula.

She was excited to write her exam for her favourite subject, hospitality, but was dreading all of the Afrikaans papers.

Nokuthula and Jessica said they spent three days going over their notes for their first exam, while Fatima said she had been on exam lockdown since the last school holiday.

When asked who would be getting an “A” on their English paper, Nokuthula answered confidently with “me”.

All three students felt the paper was well set out and were all confident that their first exam results would be a pass.
