UNDERPERFOMING schools that showed improvement in last year’s National Senior Certificate were rewarded for their efforts at the Department of Education’s head office yesterday.

Ten schools from the Sisonke, Ugu and Umzinyathi district each received a R10 250 shopping voucher from Makro.

Education Department coastal cluster manager Judy Dlamini congratulated the schools on their achievement.

One of the schools that received a voucher was Ixopo’s Ncomane High School.

The school improved from a dismal 27% pass rate in 2009 to a surprising 64% in 2010. The school’s representative. Mthokozisi Shange, said they achieved this feat through hard work and great dedication.

“This award is a great motivation to the pupils and school staff. It inspires us to work even harder and get a better pass rate at this year’s exams,” he said.
