Mayor’s blitz on potholes

2012-12-04 00:00

ONE of the worst roads on the South Coast came under “pick and bitumen” yesterday, just a day after Hibiscus Coast Mayor Cynthia Mqwebu got a taste of the potholes herself.

Mqwebu was invited to speak at a clean-up organised by the Umtentweni Ratepayers’ Forum on Sunday.

More than 100 residents took to the streets of their suburb to clean the area in preparation for the holiday season, and afterwards met at a local pub.

This is where Mqwebu met them and congratulated them on their efforts.

But she also pledged to have the potholes along Commercial Road fixed sooner rather than later.

Mike Davies, secretary of the ratepayers’ association, said: “At the function, Madam Mayor commented on the potholes along Commercial Road and she mentioned to me that she had sent the director in charge of roads to take a look at them. The very next morning [yesterday] they were being repaired. We would like her to come and visit us more often.”

Mqwebu was asked for comment but failed to respond.
