Mbalula not switching sides

2012-10-15 00:00

THE office of Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula has dismissed a story published in one of the Sunday papers as “unsubstantiated and unfounded”.

The Sunday Independentreported yesterday that Mbalula was considering ditching the Kgalema Motlanthe camp. This was after the former ANCYL president was dropped from the Gauteng’s ANC’s provincial leadership list of candidates to be nominated for party posts.

The minister’s adviser and spokesperson, Justin de Allende told The Witness in a statement that the report, which was published in the Sunday Independent, served to “create the impression that he is alleged to have discussed the ANC leadership issue with the president”.

“The story has no basis and is simply a misinformation campaign. The story therefore has no credibility and the minister wants to distance himself from it,” said de Allende.

He added: “Minister Mbalula will exercise his rights, duties and obligations as a disciplined member of the ANC and pronounce on his preference for leadership in his branch general meeting and not entertain any rumour-mongering in this regard.”

Mbalula is alleged to have met the president in his office in Luthuli House last Monday.
