2010-07-06 00:00

THE driver of a security company vehicle involved in a collision that killed prominent midlands businessman and cyclist Justin McCarthy (52) at Curry’s Post at the weekend has not yet been charged.

According to police, once the investigation is complete the docket will be referred to the senior public prosecutor in Howick to consider all the available evidence and decide what charges, if any, the driver should face.

McCarthy (52) was well-known in cycling and mountain bike circles and was reportedly training for a cycling trip in Nepal when the accident happened. He was allegedly struck head-on by the vehicle.

McCarthy was the owner of footwear manufacturer, Groundcover, on the Midlands Meander, and was also a member of the Midlands Meander Association.
