McLaren also surprised by his top 10 listing

2014-07-15 00:00

BLOEMFONTEIN – Ryan McLaren is the last person who would have predicted he would make it onto the world’s top 10 bowling list after taking nine wickets in the One Day series against Sri Lanka.

He said it was all just “by grace from above” adding his team and coaches also had to get credit for his achievemet.

McLaren (31) said he was motivated by a desire to be on the World Cup team that will go to Australasia.

In Sri Lanka he not only took the most wickets, but also sent back to the stands most of Sri Lanka’s biggest hitters to implode their batting order.

His best bowling figures (4/48) could however not prevent Sri Lanka from winning the second match.

McLaren said he was expecting the pitch in Hambantota to suit the Proteas’ bowling attack, but instead it suited the strategyof the host team.

McLaren said he had not given up on Test cricket either.

“That is and remains the true test of the game,” he said.
