McMillan leads KZN Inland against FS

2008-10-21 00:00

ROSS McMillan will lead the KZN Inland team to play against Free State in Pool B of the SA Airways Provincial Challenge cricket competition.

Inland player/coach Doug Watson’s side meet Free State in the three-day sector of the Provincial Challenge season from tomorrow to Saturday with the 45-over clash taking place on the Sunday — all at the Maritzburg Oval.

Last season’s Inland skipper, experienced all-rounder Andre van Vuuren, who bowled his medium-pacers with remarkable stamina and no little success in the rain-affected, drawn three-dayer against Western Province in Bellville three weeks ago, is also in the 15-man squad along with younger brother Morne, the KZN Dolphins-contracted cricketer.

Inland were beaten by WP in the subsequent one-day game, that weekend heralding the opening salvo of the SAA Provincial Challenge’s 2008/09 season.

Brendon Govender, the in-form Standard batsman who played a crucial innings in his side’s thrilling two-run win over KZN Inland Premier League champions PMB Varsity at the weekend, is included, along with experienced former Dolphins paceman Andrew Tweedie.

Only 14 of the 15-man Inland squad will be considered for the three-dayer, while the in-form, explosive Varsity top-order batsman Glen Addicott also comes into contention for the one-dayer.

Ross McMillan (capt), Doug Watson, Kevershan Padayachee, Clint Bowyer, Andre van Vuuren, Morne van Vuuren, Brendon Govender, Mbasa Gqadushe, Richard Mhlanzi, Jomu Mbili, Tim Drummond, Sashen Dorasamy, Ollie Humphries, Andrew Tweedie, Glen Addicott.
