Meat mincer: victim from Greytown

2010-12-23 00:00

THE 23-year-old Shoprite employee killed in an accident with a meat mincer in Durban at the weekend has been identified as Celinkosi Ngubane from Greytown. He will be buried today.

Responding to a Witness query yesterday, Sarita van Wyk, communications manager for the Shoprite Group, declined to discuss the accident in detail as an investigation is ongoing.

She said the machine was removed from the butchery to be inspected for technical defects, and the store, which was closed after the incident, reopened on Monday, although the butchery remained closed. Meat is being brought in from another store.

Cosatu had accused the store manager of forcing Ngubane’s colleagues to keep working after the gruesome accident.
