Media24 introduces new MyEdit content gathering app for Apple and Android users

2013-11-05 00:00

MEDIA24 yesterday introduced its new MyEdit content gathering app for Apple and Android users.

The free app continuously gathers information from South Africa’s top publications within the parameters set by each user. It works on iPhones, iPads or Android smartphones, and tablets like the Samsung Galaxy series.

Willem Breytenbach, manager of Media24 Magazines: Digital, said MyEdit was developed to meet the demands of modern media users.

He said media content consumption patterns had changed totally in the past few years.

“We constantly have to immediately meet the consumers’ needs and desires. Flowing from the availability of mobile systems like smartphones and tablets, consumers are demanding immediate access to their favourite content.

“MyEdit was born to meet this demand and comprises a vision to simplify the reading experience for users in an accessible, innovative way.

“It basically comes down to MyEdit allowing users to read what they want, when they want.”

The app divides Media24 content into 20 categories, including news, sport, fashion, entertainment, health, lifestyle, beauty, travel and outdoor activities.

The user can tell MyEdit which categories to watch for new content and the app will then comb more than 40 of South Africa’s most popular magazines, newspapers and websites like You, FHM, Drum, Fairlady, tvplus, Men’s Health, Finweek, News24 and Weg!.

Daniël Malherbe, head of business innovation for Media24 Magazines: Digital, said MyEdit allows users to explore only the content they are interested in.

“The app also fine tunes itself based on your reading patterns, what you like or dislike, what you share with friends and on what topics you comment.

“The more you use MyEdit, the cleverer it gets at finding the content you want.”

Users and bloggers can also exchange content, like photos and recipes, in the “User Contributed” section.

“The future of digital development in South Africa is clear, especially because mobility and easy Internet access for users become more important,” Breytenbach said. “The number of fixed and mobile broadband connections are growing exponentially and smart device users already spend more time on apps than on the Internet. This trend to mobile interaction proves that people want their favourite content to find them.

“MyEdit now makes this possible.”
