Memorial Service: Graeme Pope-Ellis

2010-06-22 00:00

THERE will be a memorial service for Dusi Canoe Marathon legend Graeme Pope-Ellis at 2 pm on Friday at the Hilton College chapel.

Pope-Ellis (62) was killed late on Thursday afternoon when a tractor he was driving flipped and rolled over him while he was working on his Table Mountain Road farm.

Pope-Ellis’s wife, Wendy, said her husband was the type of man who would have wanted a small service, but this will be impossible given how well known he was in the Pietermaritzburg community. “Graeme was larger than life, even for me,” she said.

“After all of the years we had spent together it still felt as though we were on our honeymoon.”

Pope-Ellis is survived by Wendy and their son, Lee.
