Merchiston take easy win in Primary School Challenge

2011-01-25 00:00

THE Sunfoil Primary School Challenge took place at the Maritzburg Oval on Friday afternoon. The two matches were scheduled to play 20 overs a side.

Merchiston played Pelham in the first game and they went through to the final after a very easy victory. Merchiston set a target 128 after making 127 for three.

James Webster (55) and Adam Wissen (35) were the main contributors with the bat.

Pelham lost wickets at a rapid rate and were all out for a paltry 30. The two chief wicket-takers were Matthew Diederichs and Michael Godfrey with three wickets apiece.

The other match between St Charles Prep and Laddsworth was affected by rain and could not be played. The match has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 1 pm.

After the first week of the Sunfoil School’s Night League, where all eight teams played without any rain affecting results, Maritzburg College and Glenwood lead their respective pools as they both achieved a bonus point in their wins.

The match in the Schools Night League this afternoon is between Westville and Glenwood.

Glenwood will be determined to improve on Saturday’s poor showing that gave Westville a confidence-boosting win.

As they have both won one game, this could determine who will win the pool.

Pool A: Maritzburg College 3, Hilton 2, Michaelhouse 0, Kearsney 0.

Pool B: Glenwood 3, Westville 2, St Charles 0, Presidents XI 0.
