Metier expands Mkondeni plant

2007-11-29 00:00

CAPTIVATED by the allure of the Pietermaritzburg market, a concrete products company recently expanded its existing plant in Mkondeni in a move that has seen the company invest in technology and much sought-after industry professionals.

Metier, under the leadership of managing director Kenneth Capes, recently established a new division — Metier Mixed Concrete.

The move comes on the back of the company having set up a precast concrete products plant in 2005 at the same facility.

Capes told The Witness that final touches to the new ready-mixed concrete facility were added only a few weeks ago.

He noted that the potential of the local market is excellent.

Metier also expanded into the Durban market in May this year, with a ready-mixed concrete production facility in Phoenix Industrial Park.

While the company is expected to supply the industrial and commercial markets, the new division is in a position to supply the residential market.

He noted that they are in a strong position to compete with the major players in the KZN market due to their quality service and sound technical and distribution capabilities.

He said they supply specialised concrete to the higher end of the market.

Capes said they have not spared any expense in ensuring that the company is up to speed with the latest developments in technology.

“We have the most technologically advanced batching system in KZN and are the only ready-mixed concrete company in KZN with fully computerised vehicle-tracking units in our ready-mix trucks …

“In a move to ensure that the company remains environmentally responsible, we have ensured that all our silos have advanced filter units, and that all waste water is re-used.”
