Meyer: Fourie’s Japan deal a ‘sad day for Bok rugby’

2012-04-19 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said he regrets Jaque Fourie’s decision not to make himself available for the Boks while he plays in Japan, but he respects it.

Meyer said: “His decision is definitely a sad day for Springbok rugby. He is one of the best ever and could have played 50 more Tests … I appreciate the fact that he talked to me about it because I want players 100% committed to play for the Boks.”

Fourie has a two-year contract with the Kobe Steel Kobelco Steelers and said that while there he won’t be available for the Boks. He has played in 69 Tests and scored 32 tries for the Springboks.
