Michaelhouse win, to play Hilton in night series final

2013-02-28 00:00

IN last night’s final game in the Sunfoil School’s Night Series round robin, Michaelhouse beat Maritzburg College by seven wickets.

This means Michaelhouse will face Hilton in the final this afternoon.

After electing to bat first, College only managed to put 94 on the board.

Michaelhouse’s bowling and fielding kept the pressure on the College batsmen who battled against the spin of Greg Oldfield (back after playing in the SA U19) and Luke Stevens.

Losing four wickets — two to Oldfield and two to Barrie Forrester-Smith — with the addition of just one run did not help College’s cause as they went from 53/2 to 54/6 in the 13th over.

Only three College batsmen got into double figures with opening bat Bryce Tullis and Kurtlynn Mannikum top-scoring, both with 23.

Stevens bowled his six overs for just five runs, taking two wickets and Oldfield captured three for 17 in eight overs.

Forrester-Smith bowled three overs, taking two for 11.

There was little pressure when Michaelhouse came out to bat, and Maritzburg College did not help after they yielded 12 extras in their first over.

Michaelhouse reached the target with seven wickets in hand in the 19th over.

Oldfield (34*) was the top scorer, and Bradley Roberts made 28.

Sohail Mahmoud and Lwandizwa Zuma were the only College bowlers to take a wicket, with the other dismissal being a run out.
