Midmar Dam: where to ride and park

2011-02-11 00:00

MOTORISTS travelling near Midmar Dam at the weekend are warned that roads in the area will carry heavy traffic volumes for the aQuelle Midmar Mile.

Cars travelling to the event from both the Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River sides of the N3 will be allowed to come off the highway at the Midmar offramp, but not at the Howick/Tweedie offramp. At Midmar Dam traffic will be split into five lanes. Lanes A, B and C are for motorists wanting permanent parking at the finish, and lanes D and E for parking for commuting from the start to the finish.

Traffic will return on the same route, but if it becomes too congested, it may be changed on Sunday. Motorists should follow the signboards and obey instructions given by traffic marshals.

Gate fees are R60 for cars, R120 for kombis and R370 for 25-seater buses. Buses seating 50 people will be charged R750. The entry fees apply irrespective of the number of people in vehicles, in order to encourage maximum capacity in vehicles entering the Midmar resort.
