Mike Hale’s business premises dismantled and put up for sale

2009-08-04 00:00

BUSINESS premises belonging to fugitive broker, Mike Hale, were dismantled yesterday and the property has been put up for sale.

A “For Sale” sign has been erected outside the MJCM offices at 308 Bulwer Street and furniture was removed yesterday afternoon.

Hale’s wife told The Witness that her lawyer advised her to sell the house and the BMW belonging to Hale.

“This office belongs to a Close Corporation of which Hale is the only beneficiary. I will not benefit at all from the sale of the office and the BMW.”

She said the Hale house will also be sold and said that she would not benefit from it either. “The house belongs to the Hale family trust and I am not a beneficiary. One of Hale’s daughters and my daughter are beneficiaries of this trust”.

She said her lawyer advised her to sell all properties in order to repay the bonds and said the remainder from the proceeds would probably pay Hale’s clients who have been left penniless.

Hale skipped the country last month with millions of rands in people’s investments, having stolen his wife’s gold coins and cashing in her policies.

Dozens of people reported that they had made investments totalling more than R12 million with Hale. Hale’s wife said she also discovered that the car she believed was hers had been rented.

“I gave him R80 000 to buy a car for me, but he hired this Peugeot 307 and put the money in his pocket.”
