Mike Myers is back

THREE new films start on the local circuit today — Bangkok Dangerous and Superhero Movie at CineCentre and The Love Guru at Ster Kinekor. Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Babylon AD now join the Nu Metro line-up.

Bangkok Dangerous is Oxide and Danny Pang’s remake of their 1999 film, this time with Nicholas Cage, James With and Charlie Yeung. Cage’s character is hired to kill four people in Bangkok. But killing is apt to catch up with even a professional killer. An action thriller, so expect plenty of violence.

Marco Schnabel directs the comedy The Love Guru, which was co-written by its star, Mike Myers. Also in the cast are Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake. Pitka (Myers) is an American raised in an ashram by gurus. He returns to the U.S. in order to break into the self-help business and has to help a star hockey player whose wife has left him for a rival athlete. Penis jokes abound and American reviewers were left unamused.

It’s over to fart jokes in Superhero Movie, written and directed by Craig Mazin. Orphaned high school student Rick Riker is bitten by a radioactive dragonfly, develops super powers (except for the ability to fly), and becomes a hero. Drake Bell, Sara Paxton and Leslie Nielsen star, and, once again, reviews have not been kind. But, for fans of lavatorial humour, either of the latter two films should offer weekend entertainment.
