Minibus: KZN driver wins taxi and fuel

2012-06-12 00:00

A KWAZULU-NATAL taxi driver has won a brand-new taxi.

Thulani Keswa, of Ixopo, drives between Umzimkhulu and Durban. He was the winner of one of four brand-new Toyota 14-seater minibuses in the brandhouse Number One Driver Taxi Campaign held in Johannesburg recently.

He also got a share of free fuel vouchers to the total value of R150 000 shared with the other taxi drivers.

Other winners were S.P. Mashaba, of Thulamahashe in Mpumalanga, E.Q. Martin, of Paarl in Western Cape, and S.G. Dyantyi, of Gugulethu in Western Cape.

Keswa (35) has been working as a taxi driver for the past 13 years.

“I was employed and now I will be able to stand on my own.

“To get a new taxi that is without any debt and free petrol … I imagine that I will be able to go very far.”

The brandhouse Number One Taxi Driver campaign is conducted in partnership with the Department of Transport, Toyota, Caltex and taxi associations, the SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) and the National Transport Authority.

Mike Mabasa, corporate relations director at brandhouse, urged the winners of this year’s campaign to serve as role models in the taxi industry by improving commuter safety and promoting responsible drinking.

He said the responsible drivers would take SA closer to reaching the objective of improving commuter safety on the country’s roads.
