Mining taxes: Govt to listen to all concerned

2012-12-18 00:00

DEPUTY Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene has promised business leaders the government will not be reckless in levying new mining taxes.

He was addressing a Progressive Business Forum breakfast on the sidelines of the ANC’s conference yesterday

In his address, he promised that the goverment would listen to all sides before making a decision on new mining taxes.

Nene’s assurances come after ANC economic policy head Enoch Godongwana said earlier this month that an intended policy change at the party’s conference would be higher mining taxes and greater state intervention in the economy.
