Miscreants push car into Msunduzi river

2013-07-02 00:00

A MAN was given a shocking surprise after he returned to his car, left parked at Alexandra Park, after an early morning jog to find it had been pushed into the Msunduzi river.

Nkosi Goqo told The Witness he had gone for a jog around the park at 6 am.

He said as he returned to where his car was parked near the Oval, he came across security guards who said there was a car in the river. “When I got there, I saw that it was mine,” Goqo said.

“I was so shocked at what had happened and I immediately started phoning friends and family. The security guards told me that they saw four people pushing the car.”

The security guards just happened to see the incident. The men who pushed the car into the river fled the scene.

Police vans, tow trucks and ambulances were at the scene seconds after they were called.

A passer-by who did not want to be named said it was surprising that the car was pushed to the river.

“If they were stealing the car, why did they push it into the river, because they should have taken it and left,” said the passer-by.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan said police were called to the scene as there was a suspicion that there could have been someone in the car. However, police later confirmed that the car was empty.

Jeevan said it was believed that the car was pushed into the river by four unknown men and added that they were investigating.
