Miss Bollywood IPL SA: Four KZN beauties in the running for the crown in the final 16

2009-05-20 00:00

FOUR KZN beauties will compete against 12 other finalists to be crowned Miss Bollywood IPL South Africa.

It was announced last night during the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings match in Centurion that Durban’s Somayya Khan (31), Shazia Ebrahim (21), Uraysha Ramracheya (19), and Sarah Kate Seaward (25) are finalists for the IPL crown.

Miss Bollywood IPL South Africa is a search for an IPL fan with star quality, someone who stands out in a crowd — more specifically, the IPL crowd.

Each of the contestants were randomly selected from the grandstands at matches during the course of the IPL. Each of them had to represent their favourite team in the contest.

A total of 48 were chosen, and after the first round of public voting on the Internet, 12 remain.

Thus far, it seems that Khan, who was chosen during the second game of the day between the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals, leads the pack of local contestants with 11 279 votes, putting her in fourth place in terms of the amount of public votes received.

The 31-year-old teacher and an avid cricket fan represents the Mumbai Indians in the contest.

“I don’t just follow the game, I love it,” she said. “And I especially like the DLF IPL. The 20/20 format really is addictive; the stadium has a great vibe and energy.”

She believes all that’s needed to stand out from the crowd is elegance, vibrancy and a contagious smile.

Although public voting is what secured their places in the final, the power to decide who walks away as the winner, with R50 000 in cash, a business class trip to India and tour a of the Bollywood film industry, lies in the hands of the panel of judges.

The overall winner will be announced this Saturday in Johannesburg.
