Miss India: Deputy mayor's guard 'caught stealing'

2009-02-18 00:00

A bodyguard of eThekwini Deputy Mayor Logie Naidoo was allegedly caught red-handed stealing six champagne glasses from the Miss India Worldwide Pageant on Saturday.

Sources told The Witness that the guard was caught with the glasses concealed in a food takeaway package.

Naidoo confirmed the incident, saying the man is one of his personal guards. "I asked for a full report from Suncoast [Casino] management."

Naidoo said he will investigate further once he has read the report.

It is believed a Suncoast security guard was also questioned.

Suncoast's executive director Mike Dowsley said: "Suncoast is aware of an incident".

Farook Khan, chairman of the pageant organising committee, said he had received no reports of theft.
