Miss India SA: PMB teenager

2013-02-23 00:00

A PIETERMARITZBURG teenager has her sights set on the Miss India South Africa Youth title as the cultural pageant takes place at the Durban City Hall this evening.

Model Tamzyn Reddy (15) will be one of 24 finalists from around the country who will compete for the title.

“I am very excited. This is a great opportunity,” Tamzyn told Weekend Witness yesterday.

The tall and bubbly teenager started modelling last year after being spotted by a designer on the street.

The designer asked her to wear her clothes at the Durban July which resulted in Tamzyn’s photo being published on the front page of the City Press newspaper after the event.

She then entered the Miss PMB pageant and made it to the top six.

“I was very excited and I felt honoured,” she said.

Her confidence has grown and she believes that modelling is a good way of grooming oneself.

“It [modelling] teaches you to become a lady and you get to grow,” she said.

The ML Sultan Secondary School Grade 9 pupil, who also wants to become a doctor one day, strongly believes that nothing is impossible.

“It doesn’t matter where you come from or where you have been. What matters is what you do with it.”

Pageant organiser Farook Khan said the pageant was more about culture than about beauty.

“It is a leadership development programme,” he said.

The winner will receive a scholarship and support in their education until they reach matric.

“The main thing is to send kids to school,” Khan added.
