FORMER Hayfields resident and Epworth School pupil, Courtney Elson (14), has done Pietermaritzburg proud after she was crowned Miss Junior South Africa in Pretoria on Saturday.

Courtney, a grade nine pupil at Pretoria High School for girls, will represent the country at the Miss Junior World pageant in Egypt in October. Speaking to The Witness about her reign, the girl who started modelling at the age of two said she is “very excited”.

“This is a privilege for me to be given an opportunity where I will be able to help those who are less fortunate,” Courtney said.

Other than modelling , Courtney loves spending time with her family, ballet dancing and doing beadwork. Currently, she is a volunteer at the Pretoria Zoo and she will be working with charities in the future.

“I am proud to be from Pietermaritzburg because it is where I started my modelling career and I would not be where I am today, if I had not started there,” she said.

She encourages young girls interested in modelling to find the right modelling agency where they can remain focused.

Courtney said that after school she would like to study accountancy or law.
