Missed date: warrant of arrest pulled

2011-02-04 00:00

THE warrant of arrest issued on Wednesday for Pietermaritzburg man Xolani Emmanuel Ndlovu was cancelled yesterday. He went to the magistrate’s court and explained that his failure to appear the previous day was due to a misunderstanding about the date.

Ndlovu contacted The Witness yesterday after reading a report about his case and the warrant that was issued for him. He told The Witness that he had genuinely believed he was due in court yesterday instead of the day before. After he explained the position to the magistrate, the court withdrew the warrant for his arrest, he said.

His next court date is February 16. Ndlovu faces two counts of assault after he allegedly told police constable Thukisizwe Zibula and another man, Skhumbuzo Magwenyana, on March 12 last year that he would “assault and shoot” them.
