Missing a personal campaign

2014-11-07 00:00

VENTRILOQUIST Conrad Koch, alias Chester Missing the clown, has a “personal obsessive campaign” against Steve Hofmeyr.

The goal is to cause Hofmeyr financial harm; incite others or cause the singer physical harm.

Hofmeyr has already received “death threats” because of Koch’s “incitement”.

This is the reason given by the Pro-Afrikaans Action Group’s (Praag) Dan Roodt to justify the affidavit the organisation has brought on Hofmeyer’s behalf for an interim protection order against Koch.

The Randburg Magistrate’s Court granted the interim order, issued in terms of the Protection against Harassment Act of 2011, on Wednesday.

Hofmeyer gave Roodt permission to apply for the order on his behalf and read a statement Roodt had drafted.

Legally, a person “close to or related to” the complainant can apply for a protection order on their behalf.

Roodt’s statement alleges Koch in the week of October 19-25 published the number of the motorbike dealership Williams Hunt on his Twitter account.

Koch then allegedly incited his 144 000 followers to boycott and threaten the retailer if it kept on sponsoring Hofmeyer with a motorbike.

“At the end of the week, Williams Hunt succumbed to the pressure and repossessed the vehicle. Thus, Koch has started to cause Steve financial harm” the statement said.

It further reads Koch’s “threats, insults, swearing and coarse slander” have been read by hundreds and re-tweeted.

The statement accuses the satirist of “ethnic antipathy and hatred”.
