Missing man gives cops the slip

MISSING Comrades Marathon walker Christo van Wyk was momentarily found yesterday, but went missing again.

Good Samaritans living in Kloof near Durban spotted Van Wyk (46) wandering the streets, and offered him food and a change of clothes. He then continued on his quest of walking the Comrades route in memory of his late brother Johan, who succumbed to cancer three months ago.

Bernadene van Staden told The Witness yesterday that she, along with her husband and Van Wyk’s mother Marie, had left Vanderbijlpark and were making their way to Durban.

According to Van Staden, Van Wyk was picked up by police who took him to the Kloof police station, but he managed to give them the slip and they went back out to look for him again.

“Hopefully he will be found by the time we get there,” she said.

In a post on his Facebook page, Durban investigator Brad Nathanson said: “It is apparent that his mind has suffered personal trauma. We met with him but he resisted our offer to assist him in being reunited with his family. He is in the wind again. Please people, look out for him as his family is en route to collect him,” he said.

He was last seen in Meadow Lane in the Kloof area.
