Mkhize clan dinner for ex-premier tonight

2013-09-21 00:00

PROUD to call him one of their own, the Mkhize clan are throwing former KwaZulu-Natal premier Zweli Mkhize a farewell dinner tonight, as he prepares to settle in permanently as the ANC’s treasurer-general based in Johannesburg.

The dinner, organised by Ubumbano Lwabambo (a society of the Mkhize clan whose aims include uniting the family, and reviving its value systems and cultural practices) will be held in Durban this evening.

Those invited include President Jacob Zuma, ANC national executive committee members, KZN provincial executive committee members, the premiers of other provinces and prominent business people.

Ubumbano Lwabambo spokesperson Victor Mkhize said the dinner was the brainchild of Dr Mandla Mkhize and Pinky Mkhize (Ubumbano Lwabambo president and treasurer-general respectively).

“Our aim is to celebrate Mkhize’s successes as both the outgoing premier and KZN ANC chairperson,” he said.

Mkhize said they had been preparing the event for the past month because they wanted to ensure that they put on a good show for their clan member as he leaves the province to take up his new job.

“We wish him luck in that role and we know he is going to do us proud as the ANC treasurer-general because Mkhize has a knack for beating even the most difficult of challenges,” he said.

“We are proud of the work he has done for us and the people of KwaZulu-Natal.”
