Molweni trail run: 90 spots still available

2014-02-27 00:00

TRAIL running is a fast growing sport, allowing athletes to experience nature in sublime surroundings.

With this in mind, athletes can look forward to the two-day Molweni trail run on May 3 and 4, set in the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve.

The 584-hectare reserve is only 30 km from Durban and offers spectacular views and a challenging course. Athletes will enjoy a few kilometres through Molweni township, which is linked to the event through funds raised being used for the community through employment programmes.

Runners can gain free entry by running for a charity of their choice, with the correct documentation verifying the cause.

This unique race, presented by KZN Ezemvelo Wildlife and various sponsors, is limited to 250 athletes and about 90 spots are still available.

Entry is R880 for the two days and includes all meals, massages and a goodie bag valued at R1 500.

Medical facilities and personnel are supplied, plus a helicopter in case of an emergency evacuation.

An added incentive for the winners of the men’s and women’s races is automatic entry into the Otter Trail run, a world famous event that saw entries last year sell out within 15 minutes of opening.

Day one allows athletes to run at their own pace and time, with the main 32 km run on day two.

Entries are available at and the race prides itself on being paperless, with any plastic used being recycled.
