Mom tells of daughter’s rape horror

2008-12-01 00:00

TAYLOR’S Halt man Vusi Mseleku (42) has been accused of raping two women in front of their families, whom he threatened with a gun, the Pietermaritzburg High Court heard yesterday and last week.

Last week, a rape victim told the court that Mseleku raped her in front of relatives during an aggravated robbery, perpetrated by him and co-accused Thulebona Zuma (30) in July 2007. When they broke into the home of the sleeping family, they had pretended to be policemen.

Yesterday, the mother of a second rape victim accused Mseleku of raping her daughter in front of her and family members in May 2007. The mother said they were awoken by knocking at the door and that Zuma had fired a shot that just missed her leg. She said Zuma and Mseleku robbed them of many items.

The state does not allege that Zuma had intercourse with the rape victims, but he is charged with both rapes as he allegedly kept watch during the rapes. The men have pleaded not guilty. The case continues today.
