More areas in PMB lose electricity

2013-01-11 00:00

THERE was more bad news for some Pietermaritzburg residents yesterday as areas that were not previously affected by the power outages were plunged into darkness.

This after many parts of the city were left without electricity after a massive storm on Sunday.

The areas that lost power yesterday afternoon included parts of Cascades, Montrose, Townbush and Chasedene.

“We have hit a snag. Even areas that were restored are now off,” Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson Nqobile Madonda said.

She said the power outage was caused by cable faults in different areas.

“The whole of Sweetwaters is off,” she added. Madonda said they had sent out teams to investigate and repair the problems.

Although she didn’t know how long it would take to fix the problem, she said some parts of Hilton would have been restored by 10 pm last night.

Areas that had their power restored by early yesterday evening included Townbush, Montrose and Orient Heights.

Madonda could not give an estimate of when power would be restored to other areas and urged residents to be patient.

“We are sorry about the whole thing. It is beyond our control. We are trying our best and are using the best resources at our disposal,” she said.

Other areas without power late yesterday included Scottsville, parts of Hilton, Copesville and Sweetwaters. A large part of Hilton where the current had been restored lost power again at 9.30 pm last night.
