Mostert signs for the Sharks

GERHARD Mostert, the giant Lions lock, has signed for the Sharks and will be available for the Super 14 next year.

Mostert, who turns 25 next month, is two-metres tall and weighs 120 kg. He is a former South African U21 player and is a strong-driving, fearless lock.

He made his Super 14 debut against the Sharks in 2006, but his career has been curtailed by injury and it was only in 2008 that he made a major impact on the provincial scene.

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl said yesterday that Mostert would add to the squad’s depth at lock, where they already have Johann Muller, Steven Sykes, Albert van den Berg and Alistair Hargreaves on their books. Fit and in form, Mostert would certainly add to the physicality of the Sharks pack.

The talented Lions fullback Louis Ludik and the powerful 116 kg number eight Willem Alberts are also keen to move to Durban, but Van Zyl said they were still under contract to the Johannesburg franchise.
