Mother kills children, sits with bodies for two days

A DURBAN mother strangled her two children with her bare hands after a heated argument with her lover.

The 25-year-old woman handed herself over to Umlazi police yesterday after killing her three-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter on Monday night.

She told police that the children had asked her to kill them.

Umlazi police spokesman Supt Buhle Ngidi said that the woman and her children were visiting her boyfriend in Umlazi’s T-section when an argument broke out.

“She told police that she was almost strangled and that her daughter was also beaten by the boyfriend. They were then chased away with their luggage,” he said.

Ngidi said that they decided to spend the night in a nearby bush because they had nowhere else to go.

“The mother told police that her daughter told her to kill them because they could not handle the abuse from the boyfriend. She said she refused.” The woman said the girl then insisted that she kill them.

“She strangled the girl first and then the little boy. She stayed with the bodies for two days before finally handing herself over,” he said.

The woman pointed out to police where the bodies were. Police found the children lying next to each other.

The woman has been charged with two counts of murder and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
