Mother to protect her boy even in exam

2010-11-13 00:00

A MOTHER whose grade nine boy has been assaulted in school on three separate occasions by bully gangs at his school has vowed to accompany her child when he writes his Life Orientation paper on Monday.

The 14-year-old has not attended school since October, 25 for fear that the bullies at Queensburgh High School would strike again. The mother, whose name cannot be published to protect the identity of the victim, said her son was left with a broken nose and a black eye after his face was “beaten to a pulp” in March.

She said the only way she could guarantee her son’s safety was if she personally accompanied him to write exams, which she has asked the school to be separate from other pupils. She said despite reporting the matter to police, the school and School Governing Body (SGB) she has not had any satisfactory response.

The school principal K. Ramdin said she was not yet employed at school during the alleged first assault as she took office only in May.

SGB chairman Brian Moodley refused to comment while the matter was under investigation. “I can’t comment on the issue because its being investigated at the moment … we are looking at all that has been reported and all the allegations and cannot give comment until that process has been finalised,” Moodley said.
